Lucca
Lucca is one of the most beautiful and beloved cities of art in Tuscany. It lies on the plain at the foot of the Apuane Alpsand itis less than half an hour far from the coast of Versilia. The majority of the tourist attractions of Lucca maintain the marks of its ancient history: from the traces of the Roman amphitheatre visible in the shape of Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, to the archaeological remains found under the church of San Giovanni e Santa Reparata dating back to the XII century (the earliest cathedral in the town, situated behind the corner of the present Duomo di San Martino) to the various towers and villas built between the XII and the XVI centuries.
The walls that surround the townhave been excellently preserved despite the growth and modernization of the town. Since they have no longer fulfilled a military role, they have become an important pedestrian area perfect for taking long pleasant walks. Making the place even more agreeable, green grass and trees line the length of the walls: a park around the town that leaves outside the walls everything that has to do with modernity. You will see splendid views of the town and if you are travelling with your children you will find a playground where they can have fun for a while. Worth a visit are also Piazza di San Michele with its beautiful Chiesa di San Michele in Foro, the Basilica di San Frediano as well as the Torre dell’Orologio and the Torre di Giunigi.
